Minutes of Meetings on 22nd July and 7th October

These were agreed.

Matters arising.

TC agreed to take part in recording some of his memories of the Parish. The society will try to arrange this through the local archive centre or South of Scotland University.

Treasurer's Report

In the absence of BW, GC reported that the fund in the bank is £93.52.

Website

GC reported that work was on going. A set-up fee of £160 had been agreed with Great Value Websites who suggested that the Society approach local businesses for a small contribution, £20 towards costs, allowing them a link to their own website or the opportunity to advertise. A list of 15 businesses was drawn up with the suggestion that the Community Councils and the Church should also be asked. No charge should be made for access to the site.( This to be discussed with BW.) GC & BW agreed to write a letter to possible participants to obtain their views / agreement.

Photo Archive

BW had put on disc copy of material from members and anyone with material they feel should be recorded should contact him.

Constitution

It was agreed to put the constitution to members at the AGM. A set of accounts and a constitution were necessary when applying for grants which, at the moment, are available for core funding.

Church

The committee had met with Kirkbean Church working party and felt that the rear of the church would be suitable for a home for the Society and could be shared with others. It was agreed that a letter should be sent to the working party informing them of our position and enthusiasm for this project and stressing the point that no definite plans or grant applications could be made until it was known if the church was available. An invitation to the Society on Wednesday 18th November in the Church Hall at 6pm to meet with the company doing a feasibility study on Church and Village matters has been sent. All members are welcome.

Future Events

It was decided to hold a Society event on Wednesday 17th February in The Steamboat Inn when Capt J B Blackett will speak on smuggling in The Upper Solway. And after tea and biscuits, Tom Clark will talk of his early days in Kirkbean Parish. Our AGM  will be held with a talk in the Village Hall on Wednesday, 5th May, 2010.  A  BBQ will be held in July at Paul Jones Cottage.

AOCB

AC and the team of people reading the grave stones were thanked for their
work. Ten percent of the stones were still to be recorded; being the most difficult, they would probably take as much time as all the rest. AC would like to have an accurate map of the stones/churchyard.
